BEDFORD BULLETIN COVERAGE OF MARCH 20TH SHOW!

The Bedford Bulletin's Mike Forster has written a very nice article about the March 20th show in Baltimore featuring Major League Boxing's Scott "CUJO" Sigmon and George "WARTIME" Rivera.  You can check out Mike's article by clicking HERE!
BIG PLANS FOR WAR TIME GEORGE RIVERA!

"WAR TIME" George Rivera's March 20th fight with fellow prospect James "KEEP 'EM SLEEPIN" Stevenson is a huge fight in the development of Rivera's career as a legitimate prospect.  If Rivera beats the undefeated, highly regarded Stevenson it could open doors for big fights and possible title shots down the road.  "Stevenson is good but I'm coming home from Baltimore victorious" says Rivera.  "We've got a road map laid out for George for 2010" says Promoter Joe Hensley.  "March 20th is a tough fight but we're very confident that George will win.  Once George gets past Stevenson he will be right back where he was when he defeated Jesse Nicklow at the end of 2008."  Nicklow was 19 and 0 and Rivera became the first fighter to beat the super hot prospect.  Rivera then "slipped up" in his next fight, a tune up type bout against the respectable veteran Rodney Green in January 2009.  "Green is a pretty good fighter" says Hensley "but George had an off night.  I still thought he won the fight and I had it scored just like one of the judges at 5 rounds to 1 for George, but they were over ruled by the other two judges."  Green was awarded a split decision over  Rivera and that was a "major setback" according to Hensley.  "Everyone in boxing that knows George knows that he can flat out fight" says Hensley.  "Sometimes he puts it all together and other nights he's been a little bit off.  But I really feel that the off nights are over and the "WAR TIME" George Rivera we're going to see on March 20th is the best George Rivera that has ever set foot in the ring!"

If the road map Hensley was referring to plays out it could mean a huge 2010 for "WAR TIME" George Rivera.  "Well first we have to beat Stevenson on March 20th.  Then we would like to get a shot at the newly crowned WBC Continental America's Junior Middleweight Champion Chase Shields."  Shields recently defeated long time contender Jimmy Lange in Lange's hometown of Fairfax, VA on March 6th.  "Lange is still in our sights and after George gets past Shields we would love to defend the title against Lange back here in Virginia. The Lange camp may still say that they've got nothing to gain by fighting Rivera.  But according to BoxRec.com, George has a higher rating than Jimmy, than Nicklow, than any other Beltway based junior middleweight other than Ishmail Arvin.  Plus, if we get the shot at Shields and the title, Lange would probably consider a fight with George at that point.  AND, I think a Rivera-Lange fight would do HUGE business anywhere in Virginia! "

Still another option, according to Hensley, is current USBA Junior Middleweight Champion Derek "POOH" Ennis.  "They've called a couple of times" says Hensley.  "Once George was already booked in another fight and contracts had already been signed and another time George was injured and couldn't compete and that's the one that would have been a title shot.  But we know that we're on their radar and now that Ennis has the belt he is on our radar as well."

But of course Rivera has to get past Stevenson in what many in the region are calling the most anticipated bout of the year.  Will 2010 be the defining year of "WAR TIME" George Rivera's career?  "I think so" says Hensley.  "I think it can be and I think George has the talent to beat every guy that has been mentioned but we've just got to take it one fight at a time.  There are a lot of variables and a lot of pieces that have to fall in to place but I know George can beat every guy that's on our radar."  First up is James Stevenson on March 20th in Baltimore. La Familia will definitely be in the house and to everyone else out there, you don't want to miss it!  We'll see you there!
WHO'S THE MAN?!!!
CUJO VS. NICKLOW AND RIVERA VS.  STEVENSON!

Team Major League Boxing puts it all on the line as “WAR TIME” George Rivera and Scott “CUJO” Sigmon fight in title bouts against Maryland's finest on Saturday March 20th at The DuBurns Arena in Baltimore, MD. This huge event entitled “WHO’S THE MAN” is being promoted by Baltimore Boxing in association with Major League Boxing.

“WAR TIME” George Rivera (11-4, 4KO’s) takes on James “KEEP ‘EM SLEEPIN” Stevenson (12-0, 10KO’s) in a ten round bout for the East Coast Junior Middleweight Championship.  “This fight is about respect” says Rivera.  “Stevenson is a good fighter but I know what I’m capable of and I know what I can do.  I have a lot of people that support me and I’m training very hard for this fight.  Come March 20th I will be prepared and I will come out victorious.  I don’t plan on it going to the judges scorecards either!”

Scott “CUJO” Sigmon (8-1, 3KO’s) will take on Jessie “THE BEAST” Nicklow (19-2, 7KO’s) in a ten round bout for the East Coast Middleweight Championship.  “He’s tough and in good condition” says Sigmon of Nicklow.  “He’s a smaller version of me but he can’t take what I’ve got on March 20th for ten rounds.  I’m so excited I wish it were right now!”  Nicklow was quoted as saying “I will knock Cujo out within 3 rounds and he probably won't make it out the first round.  He fights like an amateur!”  Nicklow also said, "It's gonna be a bad night for Virginia because I'm knocking out Cujo and Petey (James Stevenson) is knocking out Rivera."  Of course Virginia in this case is also Major League Boxing and as for Nicklow's prediction, well let's just say we have very different plans and a very good idea of what's going to happen on March 20th!  We're coming home victorious!  You can listen to both interviews (Cujo's and Nicklow's) with Gary “DIGITAL” Williams at www.BoxingAlongTheBeltway.Blogspot.com.  Also, War Time George Rivera and James Stevenson should be interviewed by Digital Williams within the next week.

March 20th at The DuBurns Arena in Baltimore, MD is shaping up to be the card of the year!  You don't want to miss it!  Also featuring Manny Taylor, Todd Wilson, Nick Kisner, and Zain Shah.  R.I.P. "AMERICAN DREAM" Mike Dietrich.  WHO'S THE MAN?  We'll find out on March 20th!  Don't Miss It!

CUJO BEATS ESPINAL!
CALLS OUT JETER AND NICKLOW!

Scott “CUJO” Sigmon improves to 8 and 1 with a hard fought victory over experienced veteran “IRON” Ariel Espinal at The Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD.  Bedford’s Sigmon won a six round decision over the Brooklyn based Dominican.  “He was tough, real tough!” said Sigmon.  “Espinal is the type of guy that you can’t beat if you can’t really fight so this victory means a lot to the development of my career.  I don’t fight chumps unlike a lot of trash that’s in this game.”  Upon receiving the decision, Sigmon grabbed the microphone and called out two Maryland based fighters that he feels represents what is wrong with boxing, Tony Jeter (8-2, 7KO’s) and Jessie “THE BEAST” Nicklow (19-2, 7KO’s).  “Boxing is full of a lot of trash and I’m going to clean it up starting with Tony Jeter and Jessie Nicklow” said Sigmon as he pulled out a garbage bag to drive home his point.  Tony Jeter was sitting ringside during the Cujo-Espinal bout and exchanged verbal barbs with the Sigmon camp for much of the fight.  Jeter was heard saying, “Give me the contract, I’ll sign the contract now!” referring to a bout with Sigmon.  But it was Nicklow, who was not in attendance on fight night, that accepted Sigmon’s challenge as he contacted representatives of Sigmon shortly after the commencement of the bout.  Look for Cujo vs. Nicklow to take place on March 20th in Baltimore!

CUJO #1 STORY OF THE YEAR BY LYNCHBURG NEWS!

MLB MAKES TOP TEN LISTS!
Major League Boxing's return to The Lynchburg Armory in April and August of 2009 was voted as one of the biggest stories of the year by The Bedford Bulletin!

From The Bedford Bulletin:

"Boxing made a grand re-entry to our area thanks, in large part, to a couple of Bedford Guys. Local pugilist Scott "Cujo" Sigmon headlined fights at the Lynchburg Armory in April and in August. Both cards drew capacity crowds, as local fans were eager to give their support to a sport that has been absent from this region since 1977. Liberty High grad Joe Hensley was also key, from his position as fight promoter. But it was Cujo that won over the crowd as he won a decision over Toris "The Bull" Brewer in April. Then he dismantled "Nasty" Nick Schliech, before knocking him out in the third round in August. Both nights included great contests..."

CUJO FEATURED IN THE BEDFORD BULLETIN!

Special thanks must go out to Mike Forster, the long time Sports Editor of The Bedford Bulletin in Bedford, VA USA, for this great article on hometown hero and boxer Scott "CUJO" Sigmon. Sigmon returns to the ring on Saturday December 19th to face double tough Ariel Espinal in Aston, PA in a 6 round showdown that is sure to be a war! To check out this great article click HERE!

CUJO AND RIVERA SCORE IMPRESSIVE VICTORIES!

Bedford, VA's Scott "Cujo" Sigmon (7-1, 3KO's) scored a third-round TKO over Nicholas Schleich of Columbus, Nebraska (7-3, 3KO's) on Saturday at The Lynchburg City Armory. Sigmon began the bout by going right at Schleich and working the body of his 6'4" foe. "That body was a big target and I knew I had to take away his jab" said Sigmon. "After a few hard rounds downstairs I picked up the pace upstairs and went for the knockout." Sigmon dropped Schleich midway through the third round with a hard overhand right. The determined Schleich was trying to get to his feet when referee Chris Wollenson waived off the bout.

Charlottesville, VA's "WARTIME" George Rivera (11-4, 4KO's) also won by third-round TKO over Jesse Williams of Youngstown, OH. Rivera dropped the southpaw Williams three times in the second round all with straight right hands. Referee Wollenson allowed the bout to continue into the third round where another straight right hand by Rivera dropped Williams and finally convinced the referee to stop the bout.

Fairfax, VA's "WHITE LIGHTNING" Todd Wilson (6-0, 1KO) remained undefeated with a four-round unanimous decision over Lynchburg's Maurice Chalmers. In a battle of two classy southpaws the smaller Wilson, giving up nearly ten pounds to Chalmers, did just enough to win every round of the four round bout.

Former USBA Cruiserweight champion Emmanuel Nwodo of Baltimore, MD scored a first-round TKO over veteran Lenzie Morgan of Youngstown, OH. The hard punching Nwodo dropped the durable Morgan three times in the first round. Nwodo's vicious overhand right prompted one former pugilist sitting ringside to say, "I would certainly hate to get hit by that guy!"

Roanoke, VA junior welterweight David "D-Hop" Hopkins (3-0, 1KO) won by four-round unanimous decision over Antwon "Supreme" Barrett of Portsmouth, VA. Hopkins outworked and outhustled the taller Barrett to win every round of the contest.

Rounding out the bout, Brazilian super middleweight Issac Rodrigues (18-0, 17KO's) won a very close and highly competitive eight-round unanimous decision over veteran Marcos Primera of Asheboro, NC.
